CASE STUDY: WOMBTM CHAIR
Sometimes … a chair isn’t just a chair. It’s a piece of art. Such is the case with the Knoll Womb Chair. Eero Saarinen, the award winning architect and designer, was consigned by Florence Knoll to design "a chair that was like a basket full of pillows - something she could really curl up in."
When Contemporary Office Interiors (COI), the exclusive MillerKnoll dealer in Canada, had a client who needed their Womb Chair cleaned, they referred their client, Todd Walsh, to Ryan Smith of ServiceMaster Clean of Edmonton – Commercial.
While the chair needed obvious cleaning, Todd was naturally concerned about the process that would be undertaken to complete the task on this luxury piece of handmade furniture, particularly given that it is almost entirely made of wool.
Todd’s concerns were soon assuaged by Ryan and his Operations Manager, Mark Leviste, who assured Todd that detailed care would be taken to render his chair to as new a condition as possible. Then with meticulous attention, they proceeded to clean the chair by delicately vacuuming every inch followed by hand cleaning.
