The Story Behind the Chair
The Womb Chair was created after Florence Knoll asked Saarinen for a design that felt like "a basket full of pillows"—something she could truly curl up in. Because these chairs are handmade and composed almost entirely of wool, they require expert care to maintain their beauty and structural integrity.
The Challenge
When Todd Walsh’s iconic chair became soiled, he was naturally concerned about the cleaning process. Cleaning such a delicate, high-end piece of furniture involves significant risks if not handled correctly. To ensure the best results, Contemporary Office Interiors (COI), Canada’s exclusive MillerKnoll dealer, referred him to the experts at ServiceMaster Clean of Edmonton.
Our Detailed Process
Ryan Smith and Operations Manager Mark Leviste stepped in to provide the specialized care this "art piece" deserved. The restoration involved a meticulous, two-step approach:
Deep Vacuuming: Detailed vacuuming of every square inch of the wool fabric.
Hand Spot Cleaning: Careful and delicate hand cleaning to remove soils without damaging the handmade fibers.
The Results
The chair was returned to "as new" condition, looking just as it did the day it left the workshop floor. Todd Walsh shared his experience:
"Their attention to detail and exceptional customer service truly sets them apart... Thank you for making my Knoll Womb chair look and feel like new again!"
